Musical Moment
Music is the soundtrack to our lives. Musical Moment is an exercise that helps us remember our experiences with the association of our favourite music. It helps us think about moments in our lives and what song or music we would use to represent how we felt in that moment. This is a storytelling exercise that will help us to think about the role that music plays in our everyday lives.
Time to complete: 20 minutes
Step 1: Get a pen and paper ready as well as your favourite songs on your phone, on a CD or online or YouTube or elsewhere. If you can’t access your songs at the moment, you can still complete the exercise.
Step 2: Complete the following requests on your paper:
Share a happy moment in the past year
Share a sad moment in the past year
Share a funny moment in the past year
Share a confusing moment in the past year
Share an aspiration you have for the coming year
Step 3: Go through the moments you have shared and allocate a piece of music or song to each moment. Choose a song that is most relevant to you and your experience.
Step 4: Choose one of your moments.
Step 5: Write the story of your moment and the reason why you have selected the song OR take your mobile phone and use an audio recording app to record the story of your moment if you’re working independently. You can also take turns sharing and recording your stories if working in pairs.
Step 6: Upload a photo or recording of your story or stories below.
