Exercise 5 – Letter Writing

Topic Progress:

Letter Writing

Writing a letter can help people to reflect on their lives, memories and experiences. It provides an opportunity express feelings and emotions. Whilst you would usually write a letter to a friend or a family member, this letter is addressed to yourself in the future. It is an opportunity to tell yourself about your aspirations for the future and sharing your current experiences.

Time to complete: 10 minutes

Materials needed: paper, pen and envelope.

Step 1: Find a comfortable space.

Step 2: Get a pen and paper ready and write at the top of the page: ‘Dear me’.

Step 3: Compose a letter to yourself describing your aspirations, emotions and experiences. The letter can be as long or as short as you would like. There is no right or wrong way to write the letter. The following prompts might be helpful:

Yesterday I saw…

Today I feel…

Tomorrow I would like to…

Step 4: Sign the letter and seal it in an envelope that is addressed to yourself. Place a date on the envelope for when you would to like to open the letter. Place the envelope somewhere safe.

This is a personal exercise and does not require you to upload the letter nor to upload a photograph of the letter.
